Rope transport system in Nizhny Novgorod

A new passenger rope way will run between two major urban highways on both sides of the Oka River—Lenin Avenue and Gagarin Avenue, connecting the Zarechnaya metro station and Switzerland Park. The rope way ride will save citizens around 30 minutes compared to travelling via bypass routes using personal vehicles or ground public transport.

The route is 3,340 metres long and takes 15 minutes. There are 3 cable car stations where passengers can board and disembark: near the Zarechnaya metro station, at the end of Zarechny Boulevard (closer to the Oka River) and near the Oceanis shopping centre.

The new rope way is terrain-independent and offers convenient connections between end points over the shortest route. The rope way will be a perfect option to move around the most densely populated areas of the city and to cross over water and other barriers. All these factors will ensure optimal comfort, decongest urban roads and offer regular transportation. The fare will take into account all the benefits the users enjoy when travelling via public transport.

NRW LLC took a direct part in the front-end engineering study of the rope way project as a technological partner, which allowed to implement the project as part of a concession agreement with private investments.

In the next stage, NRW LLC will design the following facility: ‘Public rope way system in Nizhny Novgorod from the Zarechnaya metro station, Nizhny Novgorod, to 31G Gagarin Avenue, Nizhny Novgorod’.
